MORPC’s Pledge to be Idle-Free campaign aims to reduce unnecessary motor vehicle idling in Central Ohio. MORPC has free parking lot signs available on a first-come, first-served basis to local governments, schools, businesses, hospitals and other organizations interested in joining the effort. Recipients of free signs must have an internal no-idling policy in place, which MORPC can help develop.

Please contact Brandi Whetstone at 614.233.4174 if you would like to develop a no-idling policy and/or receive the free parking lot signs.

Why reduce unnecessary vehicle idling?

  • Less idling means less fuel and money wasted. Thirty seconds of idling can use more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it.
  • Unnecessary idling puts wear and tear on the engine.
  • Vehicle exhaust can aggravate heart and lung conditions.
  • Vehicles contribute to ozone and particle pollution, which can pose health risks to the community at large.
