William Murdock Participates in White House Roundtable
July 28, 2016
Elected officials and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) officials from across the country recently met at the White House to discuss the important role local governments play in strengthening the fabric of communities. MORPC Executive Director, William Murdock participated in the discussion at the White House.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx called the roundtable together to focus on how the U.S. Department of Transportation could better tap into the potential of MPOs to enhance transportation dollars and meet local needs.
“On behalf of MORPC's local governments and team members, I was proud to represent and advocate for our work in Central Ohio with leaders from other high performing regions across the country,” Murdock said. “Secretary Foxx spent considerable time listening and engaging with us about ideas for improving the effectiveness and flexibility for MPOs.”
Despite the release of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on MPO consolidation, Secretary Foxx expressed that more MPO empowered decision-making and increased funding could result in stronger local communities.
MPO leaders highlighted the innovative work of regional organizations as a whole and the broader community issues that they work on, such as economic development, land use planning, and the shift to more transit solutions.
