New Director of Regional Data and Mapping Department Starts at MORPC

Aaron Schill has started as MORPC’s new Director of Regional Data and Mapping.

Schill returned to Central Ohio from New York City, where he served as director of community foundation insights and knowledge services at the Foundation Center. The Center, is the leading source of data and knowledge on the philanthropic sector in the country and around the world.

“We’re thrilled to bring Aaron back to Central Ohio for this important leadership role,” said William Murdock, MORPC’s Executive Director. “His experience and passion for data analytics, mapping, and new technology, along with his background in planning, makes him the perfect fit for MORPC with its many programs and services for Central Ohio's communities.”

Prior to Schill’s work at the Foundation Center, he was director of research and data services at Community Research Partners – a non-profit research center in Columbus geared toward strengthening communities through data, information, and knowledge. His past experience in planning includes stints with the City of Newark and Stantec Consulting.

"Having good data and mapping are key to making informed decisions and addressing the challenges faced by the Central Ohio region now and in the future,” Schill said. “I’m excited to join the MORPC team and to work toward building a brighter future for those who live and work in Central Ohio."

The director of regional data & mapping is responsible for initiating and advancing data analytics and visualization processes such as the use of a geographic information system (GIS). The person in this senior leadership position at MORPC also provides support throughout the agency and to local governments on related initiatives, public policy, and collaborative efforts.

Schill is a two-time graduate of The Ohio State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in city and regional planning.
