Spencer Reeder Announced as Breakfast Keynote Speaker for Summit on Sustainability

August 30, 2016

Businesses, local governments, and non-profits across the country are working together to make sustainability a shared value and Central Ohio is ahead of the curve!

Columbus won the Smart City Challenge and will receive $40 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation and $10 million from Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Inc. to supplement the $90 million the city has already raised from other private partners to carry out its plan.

Spencer Reeder leads Vulcan’s climate and energy work. Reeder will inform attendees at the morning program, titled Sustainability= Purpose, Planning, & Partnerships. He will focus on Smart Columbus and how it will harness data, technology, and creativity to reimagine how people and goods move throughout the region.

Reeder's career spans over two decades of academic, government, and private-sector work in domestic and international science, technology, and related policy, including leading USAID’s climate work in Vietnam under the agency’s Climate Change Resilience Development program.

The Summit brings together hundreds of community leaders to learn, share, and discuss sustainable ideas and solutions. This year’s theme, Feeding Our Economy, will focus on sharing best practices that can be applied by local communities, regions, and businesses to enhance the built environment in which we live. The Green Region awards will also be presented at the Luncheon.

The Summit will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hilton Columbus Downtown.
