Westerville Road (SR 3) Corridor Study

The Westerville Road Corridor Study is an analysis of transportation issues in the Westerville Road corridor in northeastern Franklin County, Ohio, from north of Morse Road to south of I-270. The corridor is being studied to determine the general levels of traffic and to estimate the number of through-lanes needed, and the adequacy of major intersections, for both existing (2008) and future (2030) conditions. The study also reviews traffic safety issues and the adequacy of transit and non-motorized transportation modes in the corridor.

The study came about due to community concerns regarding traffic congestion, traffic safety, economic development, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, transit access, and other issues. MORPC is preparing the study, which started in spring 2008 and is expected to conclude in the summer, 2011. The City of Columbus, Franklin County Engineer’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) provided the study funding.

The draft Conceptual Alternative Solutions Evaluation Report and the draft Planning Study Report have been completed.  Completed earlier were the Existing and Future Conditions Report and the Purpose and Need document.  The full study will have fulfilled steps through 4.4 of the ODOT Project Development Process.
