Homeownership Program

MORPC has operated free homeownership education and counseling programs for homebuyers for more than 15 years. MORPC is an approved Housing Counseling Agency through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the City of Columbus. Additionally, MORPC is an approved Secondary Finance Agency through HUD. MORPC offers free counseling for homebuyers, default and foreclosure counseling and financial literacy counseling.
Homebuyer counseling is provided for new homebuyers who want to be successful long-term homeowners. Foreclosure prevention counseling is also available to people who are facing a reduced income or other life changes who want to continue owning their home and avoid foreclosure. In 2012, MORPC’s HUD-certified counselors assisted 754 households with housing counseling services. They helped 250 families to become first-time homebuyers and helped 400 families avoid foreclosure. Additionally, MORPC served 150 households struggling to meet their housing needs by helping them obtain financial assistance. MORPC provided nine homebuyer education classes in 2012, educating over 100 homebuyers.
