2018-2040 Central Ohio Rural Planning Organization Transportation Plan Available for Public Review and Comment

June 1, 2018
Virtual Open House Scheduled June 12th

The Central Ohio Rural Planning Organization (CORPO) announces the availability of the draft of the 2018-2040 CORPO Transportation Plan for public review and comment through June 15th, 2018.  A public, virtual open house on the plan is scheduled online for Tuesday, June 12 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Please visit: www.morpc.org/committees/corpo to register.

The 2018-2040 CORPO Transportation Plan identifies population and land use changes, transportation goals and needs, long- and short-range targets, and strategies, for an integrated, multi-modal transportation system in the seven county CORPO  transportation planning area (Fairfield, Knox, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway and Union counties). The CORPO Transportation Plan also identifies highway, bikeway, pedestrian, safety, freight and public transportation components. Specifically, the draft plan discusses:

Population and land use by 2040

Population and employment projections through 2040.

Roadway Projects

Identified transportation projects and studies include those that will expand the roadway system to ease congestion and improve safety.

With I-70, I-71, the Rickenbacker Airport and Intermodal Yard and other facilities, Central Ohio is a major hub in the freight industry.  The roadway system improvements and targeted intermodal improvements will enable goods to move through the area efficiently and effectively.

Bikeway and Pedestrian facilities

An increased interest and need has been identified in making communities more bicycle and pedestrian friendly.  The plan identifies strategies and includes bike and pedestrian projects focused on expanding accessibility and active transportation options.

Strategies to improve safety are discussed in this plan.  These include roadway, pedestrian, and bicycle projects aimed at reducing crashes.  Safety data is also shared to determine which areas within CORPO experience higher numbers of incidents.

Public Transit

The need for more and improved public transit in Central Ohio’s rural areas including short- and long-term strategies are included in the plan.

A discussion on how identified improvements can be funded is included in the CORPO Plan.
