Majora Carter Announced as Morning Keynote at Summit on Sustainability

August 29, 2018

With the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s Summit on Sustainability set to return October 25, the morning session keynote speaker has been selected and is sure to provide a thought-provoking presentation for attendees.

The Summit on Sustainability is MORPC’s annual environmental conference, bringing hundreds of community leaders together to explore and share sustainable ideas and solutions.

This year’s morning plenary session will feature Majora Carter.

Majora Carter

Carter is a leading voice on utilizing environmental sustainability as the vision for city planning and revitalizing healthier neighborhoods by increasing open spaces, walkability and mixed-use development. She works as an urban revitalization strategy consultant, real estate developer, and Peabody Award-winning broadcaster.

“We are excited to have Majora as our dynamic keynote speaker this year. I’m certain her talk will resonate with many attendees as she addresses the importance of access, inclusion, and community when planning for a sustainable future here in Central Ohio.”
MORPC Planning & Environment Director Kerstin Carr

Carter is responsible for the creation and implementation of numerous green-infrastructure projects, policies, and job-training and placement systems. She continues to drive resources that value diversity into the communities left out of previous economic-growth trends.

“The theme of this year’s summit is ‘Planning for an Equitable Region.’ This theme will weave through the entire programming for the day and touch the various sustainability areas we all work in. The summit covers everything from air and water quality to energy, mobility, development, and the current political environment.”
MORPC Energy & Air Quality Director Christina O’Keeffe

The Summit on Sustainability will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 25, 2018 at the Hilton Downtown Columbus. Find out more and register before the early bird deadline ends September 16.
