Participants can win prizes by posting their biking efforts via social media

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) and Central Ohio partners are celebrating National Bike Month with community events unique and fun for all ages throughout the month of May. Bike events are planned in eight different Central Ohio communities for the entire month including Bike to Work Week, May 13 – 17 and Bike to Work Day, May 17. The community bike events celebrate the many reasons to ride regardless of your skill level, biking experience, or age.

“COTA is big supporter of all forms of mobility, and bicycling is great because it’s a healthy way to explore our communities and parks. That’s why all of our buses are equipped with bike racks at no extra charge, so our customers don’t have to choose between modes of transportation.”
COTA Chief of Transit Operations Matthew Allison

Participants can win prizes by posting a bike photo to Instagram by tagging @gohiomorpc and using the hashtag #BikeTo (their community). Prizes consist of tickets to the Columbus Clippers Game, annual CoGo Membership, courtesy of CoGo Bike Share, tickets to Bike the CBus, courtesy of Yay Bikes! and a 31-day transit pass, courtesy of the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).

“We are thrilled to be partnering with so many great civic partners for Bike Month. With all the great cycling events taking place throughout the Columbus region, May is a great time to hop on CoGo and see for yourself how affordable, healthy, and sustainable bike share can be.
CoGo Bike Share Market Manager Chet Ridenour

The Central Ohio Partners celebrating National Bike Month include CoGo Bike Share, Yay Bikes!, COTA, Columbus Public Health, Smart Columbus, and cities of Dublin, Worthington, Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights, Grove City, Canal Winchester and Hilliard.

“Biking decreases congestion, promotes air quality, improves mental and physical health, and saves money in transportation cost. We invite you to celebrate National Bike Month this May by visiting Bike Month events near you no matter your reason to ride, age, or ability.”
    MORPC Associate Planner Lexi Petrella

Bike safely to events by following these tips:

    • Have your local bike shop tune up your bike
    • Always wear a helmet to protect your head in the event of a crash or fall
    • Ride in the right-most lane in the direction that you are travelling
    • Obey all stop signs, traffic lights and lane markings
    • Look before you change lanes or signal a turn; indicate your intention, then act
    • Be visible and predictable always; wear bright clothing and signal turns
    • Signal to walkers or slower cyclists when passing on bike trails

Visit and select the Bike Month banner to find all the events planned in our region for this May.
