National Walking Summit Coming to Columbus
With years of experience in pedestrian and bike facilities, safety planning, and sustainability, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is especially excited to be partnering with America Walks to bring the National Walking Summit to Columbus on Sept. 24.
Like MORPC, America Walks recognizes that walking advocates and community members are critical to creating opportunities for everyone to see the benefits to individual health and wellness, community interaction, economic vitality, and environmental sustainability that come when walking and moving is supported by local efforts.
This year, America Walks decided to redefine the National Walking Summit to focus on localized convenings that will feature the unique characteristics of each place and highlight the home-grown solutions and adaptations that are at work in communities. They are kicking things off in Columbus on Sept. 24 at the Hilton Columbus Downtown.
The National Walking Summit – Columbus will explore the power, positivity, and progress that come when we create “Places for People.” At the heart of every community – no matter its size, location, or demographics – are people. People give life to places, and when this is celebrated and supported, individuals, communities, and institutions flourish. Places that are for people support individual health and wellness, social engagement and connectedness, activism and economic vitality.
It is clear that meaningful change starts at the grassroots level and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Take a closer look at the solutions that have unfolded in Columbus and explore more examples of successful community change that happen when we people walk and move. Register today.
