Columbus Traffic Signal System Assessment & Strategic Plan Development

The Columbus Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) dates back to the 1970’s and is one of central Ohio’s first ITS endeavors.  This system of over 1,000 signalized intersections is considered an ITS backbone for the region.  MORPC, the City of Columbus, COTA, and the Franklin County Engineers partnered on a study to perform a complete assessment of the CTSS, to take this regional system into the 21st Century.

In October 2003 the consultant team of HNTB, DLZ, and Dynotec was selected to perform this assessment. The study resulted in a strategic plan that will minimize future expenditures on the Columbus system and maximize the benefit to regional stakeholders.
