Proposed Changes to the Federal-Aid Highway System

Draft Map of Proposed Changed to the Federal-aid Highway SystemMORPC is proposing revisions to the federal-aid highway system functional classifications. The revisions are mostly due to planned changes to the roadway system that will result from the Ohio Department of Transportation's I-70/I-71 innerbelt project. Generally, ODOT will be developing a new system of “collector-distributor” streets to funnel traffic between the freeway system and downtown Columbus, replacing some of the direct freeway on/off ramps. The new “collector-distributor” streets need to be reclassified to reflect their new role and this results in some other associated changes to the downtown area street system. The new (under-construction) Town-Rich bridge also requires some classification changes.
