Proposed Changes to the Federal-Aid Highway System
MORPC is proposing revisions to the federal-aid highway system functional classifications. The revisions are mostly due to planned changes to the roadway system that will result from the Ohio Department of Transportation's I-70/I-71 innerbelt project. Generally, ODOT will be developing a new system of “collector-distributor” streets to funnel traffic between the freeway system and downtown Columbus, replacing some of the direct freeway on/off ramps. The new “collector-distributor” streets need to be reclassified to reflect their new role and this results in some other associated changes to the downtown area street system. The new (under-construction) Town-Rich bridge also requires some classification changes.
Inaugural Issue of Complete Streets
Complete Streets is a new twice-yearly newsletter that reports progress with MORPC's Complete Streets toolkit (a resource that will contain model policies, engineering, enforcement, education, and encouragement strategies) as well as other news relevant to Complete Streets efforts in central Ohio.
Included with this issue is a fact sheet about MORPC's Complete Streets policy, with answers to some frequently asked questions.
