Public Involvement & Committees
MORPC provides a public involvement process that utilizes three levels of participation. The three-level continuous process includes Transportation and Citizen Advisory Committees, special project committees, and general outreach and information dissemination. This process provides the public an option in both the level and degree of participation.
The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and the MPO Policy Committee are composed largely of public officials, many of which are elected. The Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) is comprised of volunteer citizens from throughout the planning area. These committees have significant involvement in projects from initiation to approval of the final product. All committee meetings are open to the public. See MORPC’s calendar.
Participation on special projects and studies affords members of the public, as well as representatives from TAC, CAC and the Policy Committee, the opportunity to work and provide input into solutions, recommendations, and alternatives of special project studies. These special committees are comprised of representatives from public and private entities, citizens, special interest groups, elected officials, and local media.
Legal notices and press releases regarding public meetings are sent to over 100 newspapers, radio and television stations, and magazines in the planning and study areas. Notices are also sent to neighborhood groups, private businesses, local governmental agencies and the media announcing the availability of draft plans for public review and comment. The draft documents are distributed to all major metropolitan libraries in the planning area. All notifications, press releases, and documents are placed on MORPC’s web site. MORPC is available to present information on studies or programs to your group.
