Description
Currently, the fare boxes support exact change (both coin and paper) and COTA's magnetic fare cards.
COTA's objective in 2016–2017 is to upgrade fare boxes to accommodate an Electronic Payment System (EPS) using smart cards, stored value cards, and credit cards with an embedded chip to store and process information. EPS will enable: increased convenience to transit users; less cash handling and improved security of fare revenues; equitable fare structure; and overall cost reduction.
