Gambier Joins the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission

    December 16, 2019
    Village becomes MORPC’s 71st member

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has approved the Village of Gambier, in Knox County, as its newest member.

MORPC is Central Ohio’s regional planning council with more than 70 members comprised of counties, cities, village, townships and regional organizations.

The acceptance of the Village of Gambier as a member took place Dec. 12, 2019, following a resolution previously approved by the Village of Gambier Council to join MORPC. The membership will officially begin Jan. 1, 2020.

“We’re excited to join MORPC and look forward to taking advantage of the resources and expertise offered by the commission. We’re especially excited that Gambier will be able to form new relationships and partnerships with other communities throughout the region.”
    Gambier Mayor Kachen Kimmell

The commission serves its members through planning, direct service, public policy information, innovative programming and intergovernmental coordinating services in the areas of transportation, sustainability, land use, energy conservation and housing.

The village’s membership will provide the opportunity for a representative to serve as a voting member on the MORPC board, which meets 10 times a year to discuss important regional issues, guide the direction of MORPC’s work, network with local leaders to discuss common problems and create solutions to shared regional challenges.

“As Central Ohio grows, MORPC’s membership is growing with it. We’re pleased to have the Village of Gambier join us, and they will be an important voice as we continue our work on regional issues and services.”
    MORPC Executive Director William Murdock

Additional benefits of serving on MORPC’s board include grants and funding opportunities, educational forums, training and seminars, technical assistance and data, and policy development.
