Local Natural Resources Assistance Councils Announce Nearly $3 Million In Grants

Funding Will Preserve Greenspace and Enhance Communities Across Ohio

The Natural Resources Assistance Councils of Districts 3 and 17 have announced the release of more than $2.96 million Clean Ohio Conservation Fund grant funding for seven conservation projects across several central Ohio counties. 
This funding is dedicated to environmental preservation, including the acquisition of green space, and the protection and enhancement of rivers and streams. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission assists the districts with administration of the grant funds and promotes sustainable development, along with regional collaboration across Central Ohio. 
NRAC Council District 3, which includes Franklin County, announced the release of more than $1.394 million in funding for these projects: 
  • Metro Parks, Walnut Creek Acquisition Phase 2, $576,375. 
  • City of Columbus, Alum Creek Preservation – Baha’is Assembly, $259,200. 
  • City of Columbus, Alum Creek Preservation – Sunbury/Mock Rd., $431,640. 
  • City of Obetz, Jermoore Rd., Stream Restoration, $127,137.
NRAC Council District 17, which includes Delaware, Fairfield, Knox, Licking, Morrow and Pickaway Counties, announced the release of more than $1.56 million funding for these projects: 
  • Pickaway County Park District, Barnes Family Preserve, $384,650. 
  • Licking Park District/Land Trust, Heron Point at Staddens Landing, $1,026,150. 
  • Mount Vernon, Blackjack, $157,500. 

"We are proud to work with Natural Resource Assistance Councils to support these efforts to preserve and protect Ohio's natural environment. This funding ensures that our state's beautiful green spaces and waterways will be available for all Ohioans to enjoy for generations to come, improving the quality of life in our communities.

The grants provide as much as 75 percent of the estimated project cost, with recipients providing a 25 percent match.
