West Jefferson Joins Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission

Village becomes MORPC's 86th member

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) officially welcomed the village of West Jefferson, in Madison County, as the newest member of MORPC. The acceptance of the village of West Jefferson as a member took place Nov. 9, 2023, following a resolution to join MORPC that was previously approved by the village.

MORPC is Central Ohio’s planning commission representing a diverse alliance of members comprised of counties, cities, villages, townships, and regional organizations. The guides and facilitates investments in transportation and infrastructure and acts as a hub to drive capacity building and regional synergy, creating greater value for the entire region. MORPC informs policy choices and provides community resources that shape mobility, land-use, environmental sustainability, and housing stability.

“West Jefferson is joining at a pivotal moment as we plan for the future of our region. We’re excited to be able to bring additional services to their residents and businesses, and to work more closely together on policies and programs that assist West Jefferson in managing growth while safeguarding the values that matter most to its residents.”

The village’s membership provides for a representative to serve as a voting member on the commission, which meets 10 times a year to discuss important regional issues, guide the direction of MORPC’s work, network with local leaders to discuss problems and create solutions to shared regional challenges.

“On behalf of the mayor and Village Council, we are pleased to be joining MORPC as a member. The Central Ohio region continues to experience record growth and Madison County is no exception. West Jefferson is well positioned in many aspects to capitalize on the opportunities and possibilities ahead. We look forward to the lasting impacts our partnership with MORPC will provide for our businesses, residents, and surrounding area.”

Additional benefits of membership include grants and funding opportunities, educational forums, technical assistance and data, policy development, community assistance and long-range planning.
