Free Home Weatherization Services Help Renters and Homeowners Stay Warm

January 27, 2017

Winter is not over yet, and MORPC urges Franklin County residents to take full advantage of free income-eligible residential energy programs that will keep their homes warmer in the winter, reduce energy consumption, and save them money.

MORPC’s experienced energy efficiency professionals perform energy inspections and safety checks of homes year-round. The inspection may result in tune-up or replacement of the furnace or water heater, installation of attic or sidewall insulation, or replacement of refrigerators, freezers, and light bulbs with more efficient models.

During the past 25 years, MORPC has serviced more than 15,000 households making homes safer, more energy efficient and comfortable for families throughout the year. These services are free to income eligible residents of Franklin County. Energy savings can translate into income that can be put toward other needs such as food, health care, or transportation. To be eligible, one must rent or own a home in Franklin County and total household income during the previous year must be equal to or less than 150-200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

“MORPC is proud of the important work done each and every day for families throughout Franklin County,” said Christina O’Keeffe, Director of Energy & Air Quality for MORPC. “Our goal is to make homes safer, more energy efficient, and comfortable for residents.”

These programs and services are provided thanks to funding from Columbia Gas of Ohio and AEP Ohio along with federal funds through the Home Weatherization Assistance Program administered through the Ohio Development Services Agency.
