MORPC to Honor 50th Year of Ohio’s Scenic Rivers at Riverfest

Free Kayaking, Canoeing & Paddle Boarding Available at 2018 Riverfest

    May 29, 2018
MORPC’s Riverfest has provided thousands of Central Ohio residents with the opportunity to paddle board, kayak, and canoe on area rivers over the years. The 2018 version of the event will again offer the opportunity to get out on the water and paddle down the Scioto.

This year’s Riverfest will take place in conjunction with the Columbus Arts Festival on June 9-10 at Bicentennial Park.

The activities will take place at the following times:

    • June 9, 2018 — Noon to 6 p.m.
    • June 10, 2018 — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thanks to MORPC’s partners at the City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities, Franklin County Engineer’s Office, and Metro Parks, residents with many different backgrounds and experience levels will be able to participate for free and on a first-come, first served basis.

Last year alone, more than 500 people participated in Riverfest.

“Along with helping people feel more comfortable doing water-related activities, Riverfest has provided an opportunity to educate local residents on the importance of our region’s waterways and how to help protect and conserve them.”
MORPC Assistant Director of Planning & Environment Amelia Costanzo

At Riverfest this year, MORPC will be launching the Central Ohio Blueways interactive web map, an online tool to find safe and legal access points for paddling along the region’s rivers and streams.

Consider attending Riverfest with your family and friends. More information on the event is available at
