MORPC Showcases Home Energy Services in Columbus

October 26, 2017

To coincide with the change in seasons, MORPC recently hosted its annual Weatherization Showcase at the home of Cindy Kelley. The showcase provides an opportunity for community leaders, program funders, and the public to see MORPC’s weatherization services in action and highlights the value of these important services.

The Showcase was also featured on Fox 28’s Good Day Marketplace:

MORPC’s experienced energy efficiency professionals perform audits in homes across Franklin County to identify energy improvements that help families reduce energy bills and improve the safety and comfort of the home.

“I got a postcard and gave MORPC a call,” Kelley said. “I didn’t expect all of this and now I don’t have to worry that my furnace will break down or that I won’t have hot water. It’s like winning the lottery.”

Many officials and representatives attended the event, including Columbus City Councilmember Jaiza Page.  Program funders were also in attendance, including Columbia Gas WarmChoice Team Leader Adrian Andrews, AEP Ohio Community Assistance Program Manager Debbie Reed, and Assistant Deputy Chief Megan Meadows from the Ohio Development Services Agency Office of Community Assistance.

Meadows presented MORPC with a proclamation, on behalf of Ohio Governor John Kasich recognizing October 2017 as Energy Efficiency Month.

At the showcase, stations were set up throughout the home highlighting the new furnace and hot-water tank, and demonstrating the insulation process, as well as devices such as an infrared thermography camera and a blower door. These weatherization services are free for income-eligible residents in Franklin County thanks to funding from Columbus Gas of Ohio, American Electric Power Ohio, and Ohio Development Services Agency.

For over 30 years MORPC has provided year-round residential energy programs. Through these programs over 19,000 income-eligible households in Franklin County have been served.
