Google Announces MORPC as a Recipient of the Ohio Innovation Fund

Investing in energy efficiency initiatives that foster sustainability

[Columbus, OH – May 1, 2025] – The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is thrilled to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the Ohio Grid Innovation Fund.

Along with MORPC, Google announced five additional Ohio-based organizations as the inaugural recipients of its $1 million Ohio Grid Innovation Fund. This initiative was launched in partnership with the Columbus Region Green Fund and Elevate to support clean energy projects that reduce harmful carbon emissions, provide industry workforce training, and offer continued energy education.

The remaining recipients selected by an advisory committee, are:

  • Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development
  • IMPACT CAA
  • Lancaster-Fairfield CAA
  • Ohio Energy Project
  • People Working Cooperatively

“MORPC is proud to be amongst the awardees and this grant recognizes the forward-thinking organizations dedicated to energy conservation by helping to reduce energy costs and creating new economic opportunities. Efficient energy usage benefits our communities by minimizing environmental impact and driving sustainable solutions.”

Through this investment, MORPC intends to launch Central Ohio’s Safe and Energy Efficient (COSEE) Homes, a new resource focused on expanding MORPC’s Residential Services weatherization program to include a wider pool of applicants. Increasing access to the existing program, which serves low-to-moderate-income households in Franklin County, allows more individuals to benefit which can lead to greater inclusivity and a broader impact. Annually, the program provides energy efficiency upgrades, including tankless water heaters, new furnaces, and attic insulation to at least 15 additional households, aiming to reduce energy burden and increase grid resilience.

“Launching COSEE Homes, has several advantages including enhancing the energy efficiency of a residence. We are helping individuals maintain their home, building resilient communities, and looking forward to the positive impact that this initiative will have not only on our program in Central Ohio, but also across the state.”

MORPC offers home energy efficiency and safety services at no cost to income-eligible residents to help keep them warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Weatherizing a home can lower energy bills while improving the safety and comfort of the home. Individuals who rent or own in Franklin County and have a total household income during the preceding 12 months, equal to or less than the income guidelines may be eligible. The Columbus Region Green Fund is committed to accelerating the clean energy transition in the Columbus Region, while reducing harmful emissions and improving neighborhood resiliency. For more information on the Columbus Region Green Fund visit CRGF.
