Regional Leaders Gather To Discuss Smart, Tech-Driven Infrastructure Strategies and Reduce Roadway Traffic
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) wrapped up its inaugural Mobility Exchange on Wednesday at Ohio State University’s Vitria on the Square.
The high-impact summit merged the Transportation Innovation Forum and Safe Streets Central Ohio into a single, unified action plan to tackle regional growth.
The event brought together civic leaders, planners, and engineers to balance Central Ohio’s booming industrial development with critical roadway safety interventions.
"Central Ohio is at a pivotal crossroads where rapid economic investments must align seamlessly with mobility investments. By bringing innovation and safety advocates together under one roof, we are trying to ensure a future in which people and goods move through our communities in smart, equitable, and secure ways."

Technical sessions throughout the day focused on immediate regional innovations:

- Intelligent Transportation Systems: Integrating evolving connected/automated vehicle technology and other intelligent systems while ensuring safety for all road users remains the highest priority.
- E-Bike Regulation: Developing a regional approach to e-bike policy regulation and enforcement to create safer rides across Central Ohio.
- Transit Links: Accelerating high-priority multimodal corridors to support new housing developments.
- Law Enforcement’s Role in Crash Prevention: Prioritizing high-impact traffic violations — including speeding or driving impairment — over minor equipment offenses to prevent serious injury and fatalities.
