MORPC Launches Latest “Leaders Listen” Survey Focused on Sustainability and the Environment

Public Opinion Poll Developed in Partnership with Measurement Resources and the Columbus Dispatch

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has launched its newest survey in the “Leaders Listen” series, in partnership with Measurement Resources Company and The Columbus Dispatch, to gauge Central Ohio residents’ opinions on experiences and services related to sustainability and the environment.

The Leaders Listen Series is a set of short surveys that periodically invite Central Ohio residents to share their input to better inform MORPC’s future planning and community engagement efforts. The first survey in the series, conducted in spring 2023, polled residents on their experiences and opinions related to transportation in the Central Ohio region. The current survey will focus on sustainability and the environment and address topics such as air and water quality, conservation of green space, climate change, and commercial solar power developments.

"Environmental planning is essential to address the complex challenges posed by population growth, to ensure that our communities can thrive while safeguarding the health of our land, air, and water."

Central Ohio residents 18 years or older are eligible to complete the survey. It can be accessed at the Community Environment and Air Quality Survey (formsite.com).

“This second survey in the series allows MORPC and our partners to build on our public opinion knowledgebase and combine these new insights with what we've recently learned from the public regarding transportation preferences. We want to ensure area residents continue to have a voice in our ongoing policy and planning discussions.”

Participants are encouraged to spread the word to help attract diverse perspectives and opinions to ensure that the results represent the community. Preliminary results of the survey will be revealed at MORPC’s annual signature sustainability event, the Summit on Sustainability, on Thursday,

October 26, 2023, at the Columbus Hilton Downtown.

“MRC is excited to partner with Leaders Listen to assist with survey refinement, distribution, and quality assurance related to responses. This collaboration will ensure the validity and integrity of the public opinion data collected from more than 2,000 residents within MORPC’s defined geographic region in Central Ohio, which MORPC can then synthesize and analyze.”

Residents are encouraged to take the survey before it closes in early October and provide input into environmental services and impacts in the region. The survey is available in English, Spanish and Somali.

“Water quality, air quality and adequate green space are all factors that impact the quality of our community. We must have an active conversation about these issues so that we can preserve or enhance our environment.”
